Huge congratulations to all of the St Mary’s school community, our school has achieved an SFI Curious Minds Award and have met the criteria for the PLATINUM AWARD!
Our school has provided evidence of children’s engagement with STEM in the following areas:
- Science
- Technology
- Engineering
- Maths
- STEM Showcase
Here is some feedback from our Log of Evidence:
Well done to all in St Mary’s NS on achieving your SFI Curious Minds Platinum award. It is evident from your log that you have been involved in a wide range of hands on STEM activities. You have some nice evidence of the learners presenting their PowerPoints and the open ended STEM challenge was a lovely idea. It was especially good to see the links you have made with the local natural and built environment and how you have used the Incredible Edibles programme to link with other curriculum areas and to highlight where food comes from and also to cook some of that food in school and highlight all of the science involved in freezing, preserving and cooking food for materials. The PowerPoint template for Incredible Edibles was a great example of how work can be displayed as it contained lots of information in a readily accessible format. For the future your log would be vastly improved if all of your work could be presented in this way as a single PowerPoint document with video links included within it and all links to external content removed.
You have gathered some fantastic written and video reflections from all three groups. It is obvious from the extracts of the pupil questionnaires attached that a lot of thought went into the design of the questions in order to encourage them to reflect on the skills they have developed from their engagement in STEM and the number of parent responses gathered as well as the individual parent emails is a measure of how well you engaged with the parent community. Well done to all.
